Algiz

Jera

Today I have completed a solitary Runes cast. I pulled the Jera Rune which is the 12th letter of the Runic alphabet. This Rune is typically positive to receive in a reading. It is an indication that past endeavors are coming to fruition. When you are someone who works with the land or other by other practical means this Rune indicates that your labors are very effective. A bountiful harvest can be expected. The karmic suggestion of this Rune can also foretell things of a neutral or negative experience. If your past actions were not sown in the proper fashion a backlash may occur. You will reap what you sow. Typically this means hard work paying off. 

Thurisaz

Thurisaz is one of the most malefic runes in the runic alphabet. It signifies monsters, giants, and devils. The image can be related to a Thorn. Thor is the God who is associated with this rune. Thor has a hammer with magickal powers. This hammer has a name. It is called Mjollnir. This hammer is symbolic of protection. In Germanic culture it is popular to wear an amulet signifying Mjollnir. Thurisaz is associated with chaos and evil. It can signify a warning when it appears in a runes cast. It can represent a threat from a person in power. It can suggest dishonor and physical assault. Two other associations are with anger and lust.

The Aettir

There are 3 main Runic alphabets. These are called the Common German Futhark, the Anglo-Saxon Script, and the Viking Script. These alphabets are divided into 3 groups of characters. These groups are called aettir. 

Aett is an old Icelandic word with a variety of meanings. These meanings include 'sex', 'gender', 'family', and '8'. The Germanic Futhark divided into 3 groups of 8 runes. 16 rune Viking script divided into groups of 6, 5, and 5. 

Iceland was settled in 870AD. The Runes were gathered into Aettir named after their gods and goddesses Freya, Hagal, and Tiw.
